Belém Tower Tickets

The table sets the MMP fares against each other; the figures are the state body's own, converted at €1 = $1.17. Two points that catch people: the family fare is a per-person 50% for a group that includes a minor, not a fixed family price, and the Sunday free entry that older guides promise ended for tourists on 1 August 2024 — since then the free days are for residents in Portugal only, 52 a year of their choosing. A student card from outside Portugal gets no reduction; the youth band runs on age, not status.

There is no printed refund policy on the shop's product page for the tower, so assume the ticket is final once bought. If your plans are loose, buy the day before rather than the week before: on 29 August 2026 the calendar still showed slots inside the same week, and the tower is not a sell-out on the scale of Pena Palace.

• Open the shop and choose Torre de Belém from the monument list; the Jerónimos cloister is a separate product on the same page if you want both in one basket.
• Pick the date. Closed days are greyed out — every Monday and the five holidays. If a date shows no slots at all, it is either closed or sold through; the shop does not say which.
• Pick the slot. Slots are the timed-entry system introduced at the reopening; the ticket admits you at that time, and the monument publishes no tolerance for arriving late.
• Choose the fare per person. Reduced and free tickets are issued on the shop but checked at the door, so carry the ID the table above names.
• Pay and save the PDF or the email. The ticket is scanned at the footbridge control; a phone screen is enough.

The Lisboa Card is €31 for 24 hours, €51 for 48 and €62 for 72 (about $36, $60 and $73) at the prices valid from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, and it lists both Belém monuments among its free entries. The catch is procedural. Turismo de Lisboa's page for the tower says to book a date and time with the card number, after which a digital ticket is issued and must be shown at the entrance; on the day, the card itself is validated at the access control terminal as well. So the sequence is: collect the physical card, then reserve the tower slot through the card's booking link, then bring both.

Does the card pay for itself on a Belém day? Tower €15 plus cloister €18 is €33, and the card at €31 also covers tram 15E and the train there and back, so a single day with both monuments already comes out ahead. Add the Monument to the Discoveries, free with the card, and the National Coach Museum at €15, and the 24-hour card is comfortably the cheaper way through Belém. The card does not include Pena Palace, which is the mistake people make on the Sintra day — the Lisboa Card page has the full list.

The Belém walking tour with Jerónimos ticket, €56 (about $66) for three hours, includes a skip-the-line ticket and guided visit of the Jerónimos cloister, a pastéis de Belém tasting, and finishes at Belém Tower with river views — the exterior. It is rated 4.7 from 618 reviews. The Belém and Jerónimos Monastery tour, €59 (about $69), also three hours, visits the monastery and Vasco da Gama's tomb, includes one pastel, and passes the Monument to the Discoveries from outside; 4.9 from 1,186 reviews. Neither enters the tower.

That is not a flaw. The tower interior is a single spiral stair that a group of fifteen cannot climb together, and a guide has little to say inside the empty rooms. The sensible split is: guide for the monastery, where the cloister's carving and the tombs reward explanation, and your own €15 slot for the tower, booked for the hour after the walk ends. Both walks end at or near the tower, so the timing works.

What we did not find, on GetYourGuide or on the tour operators' pages we could read, is any product that sells tower entry on its own. If one appears it will show on the tickets index when we next check.

No. We read the tower page, the monastery page and the MMP tickets page on 29 August 2026 and none prints a combined Belém Tower and Jerónimos ticket; the two are separate products on the same shop, €15 and €18. Third-party sites sell 'Belém combos', which are the two tickets bundled at the two prices with a booking fee on top. The Jerónimos tickets page covers the monastery side — including the fact that the church, with the tombs, is free and needs no ticket at all.

The only genuine bundle is the Lisboa Card, above. If you will not use its transport, buy the two tickets separately on the official shop in one basket and skip the resellers.

Tuesday to Sunday 09:30–17:30, last entry 17:00 — the Portuguese official page and Turismo de Lisboa agree; the English official page says 09:00. Closed Mondays, 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May, 13 June and 25 December. The shop will not sell a slot on those days, so the risk is not a wasted ticket but a wasted trip to Belém: on a Monday the tower and the Jerónimos cloister are both shut, while the Monument to the Discoveries, the MAAT and Pastéis de Belém are open.

The list above is the whole of what goes wrong with this ticket; the tower is otherwise the simplest purchase in Lisbon. A reader who wants the São Jorge Castle or Pena Palace will find those pages longer, because those tickets have more ways to fail.

• Arriving with a Lisboa Card and no reserved slot. The card covers the fare, not the queue position; reserve through the card's link first.
• Booking a tour 'with Belém Tower' and expecting to climb it. Both walks above stop at the exterior; buy the €15 slot for after the walk.
• Planning Belém for a Monday. Tower and cloister closed; the shop shows it, older guides do not.
• Trusting the 09:00 opening on the English page. Plan on 09:30, which the Portuguese page and Turismo de Lisboa print, and you lose nothing either way.
